"I became such a strange shape, such a strange shape from trying to fit in."
- Patrick Stump
I've had a Fall Out Boy song stuck in my head for a while now. Particularly, the line from "Wilson (Expensive Mistakes)" quoted above. The constant humming of this phrase in my head has definitely gotten annoying, but it also gave me a clear vision of something I wanted to learn how to make. Inspiration can be elusive and I'll take it wherever I can get it, even through involuntary musical imagery brought on by overly catchy hooks.
This evening I broke out a gemstone logo tutorial that I had been meaning to learn. The result of my efforts can be seen above.
While working through the tutorial I got to learn a lot of cool new tools that I'll be able to use in future designs working with polygons, multi-faceted shading, and gradients. But way more important than all of that stuff- I got the humming to stop.
